Before You Call — Read This

Yes — a valid U.S. passport or passport card is required. A driver's license alone is NOT proof of citizenship. Border hours at Lukeville/Sonoyta are 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM daily. No visa required for U.S. citizens.

Yes — it's the law. U.S. policies are not recognized in Mexico. Purchase online before you leave through Mexico Travel Services (see our Insurance section below), or at the border. All reservation holders must be at least 25 years old and present a state-issued ID at check-in.

Check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out is at 11:00 AM. If there is anything wrong with your unit, notify the front desk within 20 minutes of arrival. Notify the front desk in advance for any late check-out requests.

Units have strict maximums: 1-bedroom sleeps 2 (up to 4 with sofa sleeper), 2-bedroom sleeps 4 (up to 6 with sofa sleeper), 3-bedroom sleeps 6 (up to 8 with sofa sleeper). No more than the allowed number of persons are permitted. Wristbands are issued at check-in — wear them at all times in common areas. Lost or damaged wristbands incur a $20 USD charge.

No pets are allowed at the resort.

All units include a full kitchen with cookware and dishes, washer/dryer, linens, towels, cable TV, and WiFi. Bottled water and air conditioning are included. Access to all resort amenities — pools, Jacuzzis, gym, tennis, and beach — is included with every stay.

Rocky Point is safe for tourists. Highway 8 from Lukeville directly to Puerto Peñasco is a designated safety corridor with surveillance cameras and law enforcement presence. Sonoran Sun has 24-hour gated security. Thousands of Arizona families visit every year without incident. Drive during daylight and stay on Highway 8.

Lukeville/Sonoyta border hours are 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM daily. Best times: early morning right after 6 AM or late afternoon. Avoid Sunday afternoons heading north. Check live wait times at CBP Live Border Wait Times.

Rules & Regulations

Sonoran Sun Policies

Eligibility & Check-In

All reservation holders must be at least 25 years old and present a state-issued ID at check-in. Check-in is 3:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM. If you notice any issues with your unit, notify the front desk within the first 20 minutes.

Behavior & Noise

Zero tolerance for threatening or abusive behavior. Violators are subject to immediate removal.
Keep music and noise levels to a minimum after 9:45 PM. Pools close at 9:45 PM.
Do not move or rearrange furniture or remove any items from the unit. Everything is inventoried.

Pool Rules

Pools and common areas are available 7:00 AM – 9:45 PM for registered guests only.
No glass containers in pool areas. No coolers at the pool.
Swimsuits are the only acceptable attire in pools. No street clothes.
Children under 14 are not permitted in the Jacuzzi. Children must be under adult supervision at all times. No lifeguards on duty.
Please limit Jacuzzi use to 20 minutes to allow other guests access.
Wristbands must be worn in all common areas. Lost or damaged wristbands: $20 USD.

General Rules

Fireworks, firearms, and drugs are prohibited by Mexican law.
No BBQ grills inside units or on patios — use designated BBQ areas only.
No pets allowed.
No smoking inside units, common areas, or balconies — smoking is only allowed on the beach.
Hanging clothes or towels on balcony rails is prohibited.
Dispose of trash in designated areas — not in hallways.
ATVs, RVs, trailers, jet skis, motorcycles, bikes, and sand rails must be parked in designated areas.
Return all room keys at checkout to avoid a replacement charge.
Sleeping inside vehicles is not allowed.
